Half Shell Raw Bar Reviews

I'm a big oyster fan. Really big. Where I live they cost $2 per oyster easy so I knew I had to check out the Half Shell Raw Bar when I went to Key West. I wasn't disappointed. There is nothing better than raw oysters and beer on a warm summer day, except maybe having a basket of fried conch fritters on the side. The raw bar prices are good any time of the day (less than $1 per oyster and half a pound of shrimp for less than $12) but during happy hour (daily until 6:30) they are amazing. $0.50 oysters! They were super fresh, too. I would have been happy eating those by themselves - I did say I was an oyster fan - but I decided to go back and explore the menu a little further and I'm glad I did. They've got all types of seafood, from chowder to Ceviche, as well as the classic Key West dessert Key Lime Pie. No meal is complete there without it, no matter how full you are. I would especially recommend one of the Po Boy sandwiches for lunch - there's three types to pick from, so you can go with your favorite. If you need something more filling or more drenched in sweet, sweet butter the jumbo shrimp stuffed with crab meat is a great option. The prices are very reasonable and they've got a good beer selection to choose from to wash the food down with. If you want something a little stronger they also make a killer mojito. The atmosphere is laid back and it is right on the water so you can't get a better view anywhere on the island. All the vanity plates decorating the bar inside are cute and give you something to look at while you're eating. It's just a short walk from Duval Street, which is the main shopping street in Key West, so it's easy to get to the Half Shell Raw Bar once you're tired of browsing the storefronts there. It's obviously a tourist favorite so it gets pretty busy, but the service is still friendly. All in all, everyone should check it out at least once when they're in Key West, especially if they're raw bar fans.
