Key West is a popular destination with tourists from all around the world. The Caribbean island is very popular with German and Canadian tourists. The local TDC spends a large part of their budget marketing to this demographic and other areas around the world. Key West is the only island in the Caribbean that is part of the continental United States and that is a significant attraction for international travelers. Miami, Orlando, and Tampa international airports are the hubs for flights to the United States. Most vacationers from abroad then rent a car and drive down the coast and over the majestic overseas highway to their final southernmost destination. Hotels in Key West cater to international travelers who often have special needs like finding attractions and exchange rates. We just returned home to Rostock Germany which is in my opinion most like your town of Key West. We have a deep history and are a seaside town that is most young people going to university. We have a lot great restaurants and also are a tourist town. I really felt welcome on holiday there. My girlfriend and I stayed in one of the least expensive hotels and enjoyed touring the museums and historical buildings there. Our host at the front desk was very kind and helpful as was everyone we met. We spent one day out on a bout tour to snorkel on the coral reef. The party on the boat for sunset was brilliant. Everyone was having a great time, singing and dancing to the Bob Marley music. Travel holiday is marketed well in Germany and many of my friends had been to Florida for the amusement parks and beaches. With a very heavy accent however, the service and patients you receive from those working in tourist towns across the state can be good and bad. We felt welcome the entire time we were there and the local people are very friendly. This is a wonderful destination with wonderful friendly people living there.
